The exchange of experience and good practices among people involved in projects financed from the LIFE Program was once again enabled by the Landscape Parks Team of the Silesian Voivodeship – beneficiary of the LIFE12 NAT/PL/000081 project „Protection of non-forest communities in the Beskid Landscape Parks”. On the 4th meeting of the implementers of LIFE+ Natura projects, organized on 22 and 23 June 2017 in Węgierska Górka, representatives of the European Commission, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and LIFE project implementers took part, among others employees of the LIFE-Janowskie Forests PL project.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the problems connected with the implementation of projects financed from the LIFE Program and further exchange of good practices. During three discussion panels, there were the following issues discussed: difficulties during their implementation, maintaining consistency of the projects and issues related to the preparation of applications. The discussion part took place in the beautiful scenery of the hostel in Rysianka in the Beskid Żywiecki.
The chamber parts were integrated with field visits, illustrating the scope of active protection and practical ways of dealing with the difficulties encountered. The meeting was conducted with the substantive support of Prof. Zbigniew Wilczek from the University of Silesia in Katowice and employees of Landscape Parks Team of the Silesian Voivodeship, who completed the project in January this year. LIFE11 NAT/PL/432 project „Protection of valuable non-forest habitats specific for the Eagles’ Nests Landscape Park”, which received the highest number of points among all naturalistic applications from all over Europe!
During the field parts, the values of the Beskidy Mountains, especially grassland communities, including protected sibling grasslands, where sheep grazing was restored, were also presented. Participants were also acquainted with the pastoral and tourist infrastructure, in particular with a shepherd’s hut built as part of the LIFE12 NAT/PL/000081 project in Węgierska Górka.
